When this pandemic started, I had no idea my son’s birthday would be affected by it. I figured we had nearly 6 months to go. Surely, this will be over by then! Ha! The joke was on me because here we are still amidst the pandemic life. As the day crept up on us, we were brainstorming ways to make this year special even though we couldn’t have a traditional birthday experience. A big gathering or outing was just not what we were feeling & guess what? That’s OKAY! Over the weekend, our son declared this was the BEST birthday ever. Oftentimes it’s not about quantity, it’s about quality.
We started the morning with a trip to the donut shop because is it even your birthday without donuts?! Then as we were outside playing some catch in the front yard (totally planned), our son got the surprise of his life when we got our local fire department to do a drive-by! I highly suggest you look into that for your next birthday. So simple, yet so fun! He was so confused at first asking “are they doing a parade?!” in which I replied, “YES, FOR YOU!” It was wonderful! (I have no pics because we were just living in the moment – which I highly recommend doing once in a while!)

My son’s 9th birthday was one of the best we had. We had an amazing time spending the day together, focusing completely on our little guy, & making memories that will last forever. Even during a pandemic. When you are creative, you don’t need to have a big shindig to make a day special or leave the house. Family time is the best time.
