I think we can all agree that 2020 has been quite a year. Although many of our original travel plans were canceled, what this year has granted us is the push to see & do more in our great state of Ohio. Ohio truly does have it all; from the north coast shoreline to mountainous hills just over an hour south of Cleveland. Whatever landscape you yearn for, Ohio has something for everyone.. including treehouses. Yes, the type of treehouse you always wished you could have had in your backyard. These aren’t just any treehouses though, they are luxurious, spacious, charming, cozy – there’s just not enough adjectives to describe this wonderful place called The Mohicans.
The Mohicans is primarily an event center located in Glenmont with a Grand Barn that holds beautiful weddings & other gatherings. They have also made a name for themselves as a “treehouse resort.” Nestled among the Mohican State Park, there are 9 unique treehouses & 6 cabins you can rent out for a weekend getaway or even longer!
We stayed at El Castillo. This two story, castle-esque treehouse is anchored to & built among a grove of beautiful trees. Getting to the front door, you come up steps & cross a suspension bridge that my son absolutely loved. From the moment of arrival, you already feel like you’re about so start on the greatest adventure there was.
El Castillo is well-appointed with rustic décor & furniture. There is a super comfy couch in front of a large window with great views on the first level. Additionally, the ground level features the bathroom that has a stone shower, kitchen with all you need to make some meals if that’s what you choose, & our son’s favorite part – a queen sized murphy bed! (check out my Instagram reel for a video on that!)
There is the most gorgeous spiral staircase that takes you up to the second level where you’ll find a king sized bed & views of the octagon shaped ceiling. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. There is even a balcony that I can imagine would be amazing during the spring, summer, & fall season. This setup was perfect for us to have a little private space while our son slept downstairs. El Castillo is a great choice for small families like ours. I can imagine two kids would work just as well here.
Now when we were at El Castillo, it was rather chilly & we woke up the next day to an unexpected winter wonderland. We didn’t get a chance to explore the area much for hiking but there is lots of space to do so. When the weather allows, El Castillo even has an outdoor shower! A stone firepit and outdoor seating is also available for an evening fire. There’s even a fun wooden swing underneath the treehouse. We would definitely want to come back in warmer weather to fully take advantage of all the outdoor amenities. Not to say it wasn’t incredible in the winter, just that these treehouses truly can have unique experiences during each & every season – making you want to come back for more.

Another great gift idea would be a gift card towards a stay here. Give the gift of an amazing getaway – something ANYONE would love this year especially! https://www.themohicans.net/store/gift-cards/
