Did you know that Cleveland has a professional football team called – Cleveland Fusion? Meet Danielle Walker who is a professional football player!! Cleveland West Side moms sat down with her to learn more about her experience to become a professional football player.
Where are you originally from?
Where did you go to school & what is your current profession?
I attended East Technical High School and South High School. I also went to Cleveland Job Corps Academy, Miami-Jacobs Career College, and South University. Other than being a professional football player… I also work at Independent Stamping Inc. as a Machine Operator and Machinery Set-Up.
Where do you live today and how long have you lived in this area?
Cleveland, Ohio. I’ve been living in this area for over 20 years.
How many children do you have & what are their ages?
I have 2 children. My son is 8 and my daughter is 6.
What is your favorite thing about Northeast Ohio?
My favorite thing about Northeast Ohio is all of the free resources. Such as the clinics, educational programs, homes, parks, and recreation centers. Of course, having two professional football teams. The Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Fusion.
What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
People are surprised to learn that I have a huge heart for music and comedy.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment is completing my Bachelor’s Degree.
What is your biggest failure?
My biggest failure is not pursuing my basketball career. My basketball skills gave me a chance to join the WNBA.
What is the one thing you’re most passionate about?
I’m most passionate about my personal development skills. I’m always working towards becoming a wiser leader and a well-rounded person.
How long have you been playing football & how did you get started?
I’ve been playing football since my youthful. However, I’ve never been a professional football player until this year.
How do you balance work, training, games, and family?
I have to use great time management and organizational skills. It is definitely a challenge to balance work, school, family, and be a professional football player.
How did you get started with Cleveland Fusion?
My teammate recruited me to be a professional football player for Cleveland Fusion. I started working out with the team in September of 2018. A bonus, is the great friendships and relationships that I have built with my coaches and teammates. They have become a second family to me.
What is your favorite part about being a part of the Cleveland Fusion’s Team?
This team provides a huge amount of help, support, and love from the coaches and teammate. They have helped me grow as a professional football player. Plus, personal growth on and off the field. In addition, I know that I’m a part of a larger network of female professional football players with Women’s Football Alliance.
If you could give moms one piece of advice about getting their daughters into football, what would it be?
My advice to any mother with daughters that have a passion to play football or any other sport would be this. If your child is passionate for something, let them have that experience and support them. Especially for football! It’s not just for men. Nothing is just for men any more. You have to have passion for the things we enjoy in life. That passion helps to become successful and gain more knowledge and development of skills.
What is your future as a professional football player?
In my future, is to become one of the top players for the Women’s Football Alliance. My goal is an All American All-Star designation. I work out and practice hard. I’m not perfect. But, I have been learning from my mistakes. These mistakes allow me to focus on skills to develop them into perfection.
Where do you see the future of Women’s professional football going?
I see the fan base is growing as more people become aware that there are other professional football players here in town. When most people think of professional football players, they only speak of the Cleveland Brown’s. Also, fans are supporting the professional women teams as well.
Can you give us one pearl of wisdom?
Don’t bring your past into your future. It will destroy you. Let God guide your path and you will never be led in to destruction.
If you could encourage more people to take an action in some way, what would it be?
I encourage people to take action to improve equality for women worldwide. Because globally, women have fewer opportunities for economic participation than men.
Is there anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
Yes, I would like to thank my children for helping thru my parenthood. My children help me be a more effective woman. Also, my family for their love and support. They provide additional support as I prepare my children to live successful lives.
Cleveland Fusion is a women’s professional American football team based in Cleveland, Ohio. They play in the Women’s Football Alliance. Adult ticket are $10 pre-sale and $12 at the game.
